Sounds of the Cosmos: The Solar System

Explore the Solar System through Holst’s , as Professor Paul Crowther explains the planets, asteroids and comets alongside NASA and ESA space imagery.

What makes up our Solar System, and just how big is it?

In the first chapter of Sounds of the Cosmos, Professor Paul Crowther, Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Sheffield, takes us on a journey through our Solar System.

Discover the planets that orbit the Sun, the asteroids and comets that travel through space, and the enormous distances that separate them.

The science is accompanied by a filmed orchestral performance of Gustav Holst’s The Planets, bringing music and astronomy together. Images captured by astronauts and spacecraft from NASA and the European Space Agency give us a closer look at the worlds that make up our cosmic neighbourhood.
