Is the Sheffield Accent Set in Stone?

This film looks at the installation - Is the Sheffield Accent Set in Stone? - a series of stone carvings by local stonemason Steve Roche that represent relics of Sheffield speech.

The phrases, taken from an archive used in research into variation and change in the Sheffield dialect over the last 100 years, have been carved into local Mouselow stone. Alongside the phrases are International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols, representing the differences in vowel sounds specific to local Sheffield Speech.
