Our guest is the renowned engineer and science communicator Mark Miodownik.
Mark is a Londoner and went up to Oxford in 1987 to read Materials Science, and following his BSc stayed there for a PhD on jet engine alloys, graduating in 1996.
After a period as a research engineer in the USA and Ireland, he returned to a lectureship at King’s College in the year 2000. Mark is passionate about teaching both within the university and public for a and gave the Royal Institution Xmas Lectures in 2010.
He moved to UCL to be Professor of Materials & Society in 2012 and established the UCL Institute of Making. His book Stuff Matters was a New York Times Bestseller and won, amongst other prizes, the Royal Society Winton Prize in 2014.
His TV and radio programmes such as How It Works, Chef versus Science and Everyday Miracles have reached millions of viewers globally.
