The Julia Garnham Centre is a unique remote placements facility, created to help reduce NHS cancer backlogs, whilst training the next generation of leaders in the field of genetics.
The Julia Garnham Centre is a unique remote placements facility, created to help reduce NHS cancer backlogs, whilst training the next generation of leaders in the field of genetics.
The Centre was named after Julia Garnham, a geneticist who worked for the Children’s Hospital for over 30 years, developing clinical laboratory processes. For some individuals, the receiving of rapid results would have been the difference between life and death. Julia dedicated her life to helping others through her work and this also included the provision of clinical laboratory teaching and training to many NHS and University staff and students in areas of her profound skill and expertise. Her work and dedication to the NHS underpins the culture and ethos within the centre.
In this video Dr Adam Hodgson, JGC Director, and external partners discuss how the Julia Garnham Centre – an equal partnership between the University and Sheffield Children’s Hospital – is creating positive change for the hospital and its patients, as well as for our students.
