Climate ReAssemblies
Short video documenting the Climate ReAssemblies project created by the research team in collaboration with Mo Khizr.
Climate ReAssemblies is a multi-phase, interdisciplinary research project that rethinks citizen participation in climate policy by expanding the imaginaries and methodologies of climate assemblies. Grounded in participatory practice, co-creative and co-design approaches, and knowledge exchange activities, the project explores how democratic innovations can be strengthened to better support inclusive citizen engagement in climate policy.
This short film documents the first phase of the project — South Yorkshire Climate Futures (Research England Participatory Research Funding, 2024) — which investigated follow-up citizen engagement with the recommendations of the South Yorkshire Citizens’ Assembly on Climate (2023) through the co-creation of scenarios of shared climate futures. This informed the subsequent series of Roundtables and citizen-policy knowledge exchange activities (KE QR-PSF Funding, 2024–2025).
The current phase is the Re-Staging Climate Assemblies initiative (2025–2027), supported by the British Academy Knowledge Frontiers: International Interdisciplinary Research Projects programme (BA KF25\100465). This project aims to advance democratic innovation and climate action by co-developing inclusive and youth-centred approaches to climate assemblies in Sheffield, UK, and Tübingen, Germany.
